Summery Sides

June 3, 2010

We are still shocked by the number of people who like to cook who have not heard of the book The Thrill of the Grill by Chris Schlesinger & John Willoughby. It is perhaps one of the best grill books ever.  With Father’s Day approaching, it is a perfect “guy gift”, with much inspiration for that special man.

Although not a meaty dish, this recipe was inspired by this book and adapted in our home kitchens to a simpler version. Our families love baked beans, especially these. We believe using dried beans is a must. If you forget to soak them in advance, no worries – just simmer them for a couple of hours in salted water until tender. They do not take that long to cook and can be left unattended.

Bring this along to your next summer cookout. Other “warm weather” potluck suggestions on Loulies include: Sesame Noodles, Sweet Corn Tossed with Summer Herb Cuttings and Lime Butter and Lime-Drenched Guacamole
