We recently heard a story about an organic dairy farmer who turned to his customers for help with financing a bottling plant in his barn. The concept is part of the Slow Money movement inspired by Woody Tasch, Chairman of Investors’ Circle, a national non-profit network of investors dedicated to “Patient Capital for a Sustainable Future”. Similar to Slow Food, the concept promotes investing in businesses that are within our communities to promote sustainability. Tasch’s first tip to get started: Support Your Local Farmer. “Investing in a local farmer” he says, “is an easy way to put a little of your money to work. It has a huge social impact. We shouldn’t underestimate the impact of small things.”
