The east coast is gearing up for a “crippling storm”. The latest report for Washington is calling for 20-30″ of snow. Local residents are stocking up to hunker down during the snowpocalypse of 2010, creating crazy, long lines everywhere. Grocery store shelves are becoming barren in the mad dash to beat the worst of the weather.
So, we’ve taken stock of what we’ve got in-house and decided to plan for a few dishes from our kitchen pantry:
Tomato Garlic Rice
Rice with Peas and Carrots, Flavored with Cardamom
Bucatini with Parsley and Breadcrumbs
Chickpeas with Swiss Chard
Spicy Chickpeas with Ginger
Heirloom Bean Chili

I love the phrase “refrigerator tapas”!!! I have served many meals like that over the past couple of weeks, but now i know what to say when I put out all of my small plates. Thanks for the note. Looking forward to spring.
Well, we didn’t exactly make it to the grocery stores before this doggone storm hit. I walked inside, saw the line snaking all the way to the front doors (reminiscent of the Food Lion in Corolla on a summer Saturday) – and decided to take my chances with whatever was on hand…So, for the last few days we have developed a new cuisine: Refrigerator Tapas…A little bit of this, a little bit of that, add garlic and pepper…Dinner! Now, with this new wave of snow coming, we have had to expand the selection. As the snow falls outside, we are now enjoying Freezer Tapas…A bit longer to make, but the same philosophy applies..You just never know what you will get ’till it’s done
