FreshFarm Ginger – A Surprise Find

October 6, 2009

As market cooks, sometimes we go to the farmers’ market with a list or idea of what we want to cook, especially as we become more attuned to shopping by season. But, sometimes we have to take a carpe diem approach and “sieze the day”.

Last Sunday, with a list in hand to make fresh tomato sauce, the most beautiful fresh ginger is what caught our eye. Nothing like the dried-out kind found at the grocery store, these were beautiful pieces with soft color and green shoots. We bought it on the spot and changed our cooking plans. Making fresh tomato sauce will just have to wait.
