Events: Market to Kitchen + Edible Urban Garden Tour

May 19, 2011

Here are two events we are working on that we are very excited about. Save the Dates. We hope you can join us!

Next Saturday, May 28th, we will begin the first class in a series of summer workshops called Market to Kitchen. We will start at the DC Greens Farmers Market with a cup of coffee, learn from some of the market’s local farmers, gather a few ingredients and then walk across the street to Suzanne’s kitchen for a cooking demonstration, tasting, and discussion on how to shop and what to cook with what’s in your pantry. Topics will include: Cooking with Greens and Farm Fresh Eggs, Farm Market Meat: Why it Matters and How Best to Cook It, Quick Pickles, Salsas and Sauces, Summer Fruit, including Tomatoes, On the Shelf: Preserves and Canning, and Fall and Winter Vegetables: Best Recipes for the Seasons.

For those of you who are not in the DC area, we will post class highlights and a few recipes to try. So check back with us online. Click here for a listing of class dates and to register early (how about with a group of your friends!!), space is limited.

On July 15th, GET YOUR GROW ON with DC’s 1st annual Edible Urban Garden Tour. Learn how to grow food in small spaces and explore some of DC’s most inspiring edible gardens from front yards, rooftops, containers, to empty lots. A detailed map and scheduled activities will be published soon. The tour is self-guided. Click here to buy tickets or send us an email with any questions you may have.
