"Crababbles"

These packs are the ultimate make-ahead campfire dessert (S'mores excluded), or they can be a breakfast sweet treat - perfect alongside pancakes or eggs. They can be trussed up ahead and kept cold with ice packs or in an insulated bag for camping or a beach picnic. (They're also just as good at home cooked on the backyard grill).

Serves 8

8 apples, quartered, cored and chopped
¾ c. raisins
1 stick unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
3 Tbls. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

In a bowl, mix all ingredients. Divide portions among 8 squares of heavy-duty tinfoil. Wrap each package tightly and be careful not to poke holes into the foil or the juices will run out.

In a medium hot fire, place the packs on the bottom of the fire (or grill), and arrange the ash or coals around them. (Be sure that during the cooking process hot, burning ash or coals constantly surround the pack). Cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Remove the packs from the coals and carefully unroll the foil. Enjoy eating this right out of the foil.
