Mastering the Muddle

Muddling is an essential step in properly fusing the ingredients in juleps, mojitos and several other mixed drinks. Often people think that these cocktails are difficult to make, but, with the right tool -a muddler- they are easy to master.

Using the flat end of a wooden muddler, simply press down firmly to extract the juice and essence. No need to push, twist or mash to a pulp. When properly muddled, mint leaves, for example, should be whole, not decimated.
