Super Natural Cooking
Learn to use more whole-grains, cook by color and texture, explore "superfoods", and discover natural sweeteners. This is how Heidi Swanson's cookbook Super Natural Cooking: Five Ways to Incorporate Whole & Natural Ingredients Into Your Cooking is divided to inspire swapping out heavily processed ingredients with more healthful options. One of her main premise's: build a natural foods pantry. Some changes we made: whole wheat white flour instead of all-purpose white and cane sugar instead of highly processed white granulated sugar. We also experimented with using coconut oil, agave nectar, and miso and like having the confidence to cook with them in our kitchen. A great find and worth the splurge: pistachio oil; however, the book does not give any recipes on how to use it.
It is a beautiful book with gorgeous photo's that Heidi has taken herself. We found the book to provide interesting text on how navigate a less processed world, but you will not use it everyday and may grow tired of it after a while - the perfect time to pass it on to a friend.
